Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a form of operation that corrects the eyelid. Actually, blepharoplasty itself is a procedure that can be done both in the upper and lower eyelids. In the case of the lower eyelid procedure, its main goal is to make the eyes look fresher by removing the bags from under the eyes. Blepharoplasty in the lower eyelid is also considered to be more challenging than in the upper eyelid. If you want to undergo this procedure, it would be best to have it done with a qualified and trained surgeon.

It is also ideal to learn a few things about the lower eyelid blepharoplasty before subjecting yourself to this surgical procedure. The surgeon can explain to you in advance what approaches can be made in order to gain access to the area. This is typically accomplished through incisions below the eyelashes line or inside the lower lid. The incisions are practically invisible but it is a good idea to discuss with your surgeon what options might be best for your desired goals and that usually depends on several factors associated with the procedure.

Basically, lower eyelid blepharoplasty is the removal of the lines and bags under the eyes. The eye bags are actually the result of the fat around your eyeball that has been pushed out over the edge of your eye socket’s bone. Some people have bags on their cheeks, though blepharoplasty is not the right procedure in such cases. Moreover, the dark circles are caused by the shadows of your fat on the eyes. Often, the pigment of your skin has something to do with the discoloration on your eyes. You may need to undergo another procedure just for the discoloration.

Testing for Elasticity

Since lower eyelid surgery presents a greater risk, the experienced surgeon will first test your eyelid if it is tight enough for the surgery. Because if you have a loose lower lid, there is a big possibility of negative effects after the procedure such as unnecessarily exposing the eyes or the eyes becoming dry. The testing is typically done by pinching and pulling the lower eyelid out and examining the response. If you do happen to have a loose lower eyelid you may tighten your eyelid by undergoing a procedure especially for this purpose. The tightening of the lower lid can be done before or together with the blepharoplasty.

Lower Eyelid Surgery Recovery

The lower eyelid blepharoplasty healing process is commonly involves some bleeding, swelling, and bruising. These are reasons enough to limit you to do your regular activities again. Your surgeon can estimate how long the duration of your recovery is. That is why it is important to know vital information regarding this type of surgery. This operation is worth considering for, thus arm yourself with the right information and the right surgeon.
