What You Need to Know About Botox Treatment

The use of Botox Treatment for cosmetic purposes can be a very safe, cost-effective, and successful procedure – as long as you do your research first. Botox, which is the trade name for botulinum toxin, is a protein that has proven very useful in the medical field, and not only for cosmetic help. When used as an alternative it is more affordable than what typical plastic surgery costs. The applications of Botox range from curbing muscle spasms to lessening severe perspiration, and Botox is even being studied for use in arthritis and migraine treatment.

Botox Treatment in any application can lead to some side effects that patients need to be aware of. In non-cosmetic applications, Botox has caused life-threatening conditions, and carries an FDA black-box label. However, these strong side effects are rare, and do not arise when Botox is used for cosmetic purposes. Side effects that have been encountered by cosmetic patients are much less intense, and include headaches, flu-like symptoms, and tenderness at the site of the injection.

Botox Treatment is administered by a physician in his or her office. The doctor will mark the injection areas with a pencil, decide how much Botox to use, and then inject the Botox filler underneath the patient’s skin. The toxins contained in Botox will interfere with the body’s release of a chemical that causes muscle spasms. Botox stops the muscle spasms from occurring, thereby stopping wrinkles caused by the spasms. Patients can see the effects of their Botox Treatment within only one week after their injection, and the results will usually remain for around three to five months.

The cost of a Botox Treatment can vary according to many factors, including your doctor and what part of the country you live in. If you are thinking of receiving a Botox injection, make sure that you learn as much as you can about the process, and that the doctor you choose for your procedure is qualified and experienced.
